We are thrilled to announce that Carlos Hornero, representing the REDOL project, will be attending the prestigious POLY-CHAR 2024 conference in Alcalá de Henares, Madrid, Spain from 27 to 29 May. Organized by POLY-CHAR, a non-profit and non-governmental organization dedicated to advancing Polymer Science and Technology, this conference is a significant event for researchers and professionals across the globe.

POLY-CHAR 2024 is set to be an exciting gathering, fostering a collegial environment for sharing information, organizing student exchange and cooperation, and holding international meetings. This conference provides a platform for scientists from various disciplines—including chemists, physicists, biologists, and engineers—to collaborate and deepen their understanding of polymers.

This year’s conference, themed “Polymers for our future,” aims to bridge the classical branches of polymer science with contemporary issues such as sustainability, recyclability, energy, health, and security. With a robust programme featuring nine thematic sessions, POLY-CHAR 2024 promises to be a comprehensive and enriching experience.

A highlight of the event is its strong focus on young scientists, offering a one-day pre-conference workshop for PhD students and young researchers, and dedicated sessions where early-career researchers can present their work.

Carlos Hornero will present a poster titled “General Solvolysis Methods for Thermoplastic Resins’ Dissolution.” This poster details the trials developed with REDOL’s composite resins found at the CASALÉ landfill, covering three types of resins. The experimentation process described in the poster explores four solvent groups, ranging from non-green to greener solutions, and evaluates their efficacy in the solvolysis process for each resin type. Additionally, the poster explains the parameters used to identify a solvent as a green solvent.
