EU-funded projects often have big results. Results that can significantly advance the field, drive innovation, and improve citizens’ day-to-day lives. But if no one hears about such results, are they really producing an impact? Or are they limited to a metaphorical shelf, that is bound to get dusty and forgotten in the next few years? Luckily, in REDOL we don’t have to deal with this issue. Our partners are doing their best at maximising the visibility of their work: through the online medium, through publications, and – most importantly – through events that bring the research communities and/or the industry together.

Here’s a rundown of the events our partners attended in the last few months:

  • Our colleague Jorge Arroyo, part of our coordinating team, went to Madrid to attend the S4i | Science for Industry conference, where he conducted a demonstration on how the hyperspectral camera we use in the project to sort paper and cardboard works.
  • We also joined the European Robotics Forum in Stuttgart (25-27 March), where our colleague Konstantinos Kokkalis at I-SENSE Group presented a paper highlighting project findings.
  • We joined the Plastics & Rubber event in Barcelona (12-13 March), reuniting recycling experts from all over the Iberian Peninsula.
  • Our colleagues at CIRCE – Centro Tecnológico conducted a workshop in Madrid at the National Environmental Congress that connects students with industry players to propose solutions for sustainability challenges.
  • Our colleague Félix González Fernández of ITENE joined the 5th Annual Innovative Plastics Processing and Recycling Conference in Berlin and presented our work on the decontamination, delamination and compatibilising of multilayer plastic packaging residues.
  • A team consisting of colleagues from CIRCE – Centro TecnológicoCasalé, I-SENSE Group, and VDZ were present at the 2nd International Congress on Recycling Construction and Demolition Waste, where we also held a presentation of our work.
  • Our partner Comune di Prato introduced REDOL to the guests of the ECOMONDO – Italian Exhibition Group event in Rimini, dedicated to the green transition and new circular economy models.
  • We were also present at the WAS-CIRCULAMOS event in Zaragoza, and we conducted a self-funded workshop to discuss circularity, with a focus on real-life examples and success stories.

And that’s not at all! Our colleague Maria Blecua of CIRCE – Centro Tecnológico went to schools on the occasion of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science and spoke to 5th and 6th graders about the importance of having more women join STEM fields. We’re always down for more inclusion in STEM – and this must start from early on.

We’ve already signed up for more exciting events in the upcoming months and we’re looking forward to making our project’s work known amongst even larger audiences. Don’t worry, we’ll report back on those!
